In the morning hours of this Wednesday, a fire was registered in Santiago centerin the corner of the Mall with Avenue brazil.

He Commander Jorge Guevara, of the Santiago Fire Department, pointed out that at around noon the fire was contained: “We have a lot of collapse inside, we are talking about properties that are 100 years old, a lot of adobe, a lot of wood, combined concrete, danger of collapse. The flames started on the second floor, “in a residential house,” he said. There were, in total, five compromised, with a lot of damage, among others 16 sublet properties.

They reached the extinction of the flames 18 companies with approximately 35 cars and nearly 300 volunteers. Regarding the possible collapse, he said Guevara:

“Fortunately, the dangers of collapse are within the façade. We have structural engineers in charge of safety to prevent the danger of collapse. At the time the incident began, passers-by were passing by the scene. At one point, at least two booms were heard: the first, at the top of the building, and the second in a room on the first floor, at an auto parts store. In the latter there was an explosion, which brought down the metal curtain that protected it. Fortunately, the incident left no fatalities.
