Its story began in 2009 when Markus Persson, an independent Swedish developer, released a pre-release version of the game. Inspired by titles like Dwarf Fortress and Infiniminer, he designed a simple but expansive world where players could build and destroy blocks in a randomly generated three-dimensional space.

In its early stages, Minecraft offered a single mode, known as creative mode, where players had unlimited resources to create whatever they wanted. The simplicity of the design, combined with the creative freedom it allowed, quickly attracted a passionate community.

As the community grew, Notch and his small company, Mojang, added new features, including survival mode, where players had to collect resources and face hostile creatures while managing their basic needs like and hunger.

Minecraft’s initial success was cemented in 2011, when the game was officially released out of beta. The final version included significant improvements to gameplay and content, as well as increased stability.

In that same year, sales exceeded 10 million copies, and the user base continued to grow exponentially. The gaming community contributed significantly to the expansion of the game by creating mods, custom servers, and online content.

The game’s popularity grew to the point of capturing the attention of Microsoft, which in 2014 acquired Mojang and the rights to Minecraft for $2.5 billion. Under Microsoft’s guidance, the game not only continued to thrive but also expanded to more platforms, including consoles and mobile devices.

Versions for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and editions for iOS and Android brought the Minecraft experience to an even wider audience.
