The director of Ego Media Private Limited Bhavesh Bhinde was absconding since a hoarding installed by his company collapsed on Monday, claiming 16 lives.

Bhavesh Bhinde, the director of Ego Media Private Limited, which had the contract of a hoarding that collapsed in Ghatkopar on Monday claiming 16 lives, was arrested from Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Thursday.

Bhinde’s last traced location was Lonavla on Tuesday after he fled impending arrest, where he was not found. He was also not found at his Mulund residence.

He was also booked in a rape case by the Mumbai Police earlier this year.

At least 16 people were killed, and 75 injured after the billboard collapsed in an unexpected dust storm in Mumbai on Monday. Days after the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) appointed Veermata Jeejabai Technological Institute (VJTI) to carry out a structural audit of the collapsed billboard.

The civic body also issued notices to the administrations of Central Railway and Western Railway for removal of oversized hoardings above 40 x 40 feet size erected on their land.

Further, records investigated by The Indian Express and interviews with key officials showed no action beyond issuing notices was taken despite the billboard being red-marked for over a year over issues ranging from non-payment of license fees to tree damage and lack of required permissions.
