The mission, known as Crew Flight Test (CFT), was originally scheduled to take off on May 21 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station launch complex.

NASA and Boeing announced a new delay in the launch of the first manned mission of the Starliner spacecraft. The scheduled date for the start of the trip to the International Space Station (ISS) has been rescheduled for next May 25.

The main cause of this delay is the need to resolve a “small helium leak in the service module of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft,” according to the US space agency.

The mission, known as Crew Flight Test (CFT), was originally scheduled to take off on May 21 from the launch complex at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

This postponement marks the fourth time this mission has been delayed since its initial liftoff date of May 6. On that occasion, the launch was suspended due to an anomaly in a liquid oxygen tank on the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V booster rocket.

Tests carried out last Wednesday on the Starliner’s helium system indicated that “the leak in the flange is stable and would not represent a risk at that level during the flight.”

However, technicians will continue with the tests to ensure optimal performance of the ship.

If the new date is maintained, May 25 at 3:09 p.m. local time (7:09 p.m. GMT), the ship and its crew will remain on the ISS for about a week before returning, with a planned landing in the southwestern United States. United and relying on a parachute system.

The success of this mission is crucial for Boeing, as it will allow the company to obtain the necessary certifications to operate as a second provider of cargo and crew transportation services to the ISS.

Currently, SpaceX fulfills this role, the result of million-dollar contracts with NASA.
