POLICE have completed files for the seven policemen allegedly involved in the murder of 18-year-old Kimoli Dagoba last November.
Police Prosecutor Sgt Christian Iga informed the court the files for Constables Wanpis Bone, Sebilen Saluali, Fredrick Seri, reservist Mel Taime, Wayne Tali, and Christopher Tokana and informant Joseph Ronnie were ready but they refused to take the files and were aggressive towards the arrest officer.
Defense lawyer Emmanuel Ellison, from the Office of the Public Solicitor, informed the court that his clients were frustrated because they did not want the arresting officer to serve files to tell them in the cells.
They wanted to receive their files in the court room. Police alleged the seven policemen – three regulars, three reservists and informant murdered Kimorly Dagoba on Nov 28, 2023.
They were each charged under Section 300 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code Act.
Reports said the officers were out on patrol on Nov 28, at around 1am when they came across a Toyota Hilux vehicle parked in the middle of the road leading into the Eda Ranu and Works Compound at Boroko.
Its hazard lights were on with 12 people on board.
Police found beer on the occupants.
A policeman took possession of the vehicle and drove the impounded vehicle with its occupants back to the Gordon Police Station.
As they were approaching, five of the eight occupants jumped off the moving vehicle and escaped.
Police gave chase and caught two, one in a nearby drain and another who was trying to flee in a cab.
Kimorly, alleged to have been one of the five who jumped off the vehicle, was found at 5am in a drain between the Corner Stone Church and Gordon Police Station.
The officers on duty were detained and charged with Kimorly’s death.
A doctor’s post-mortem report claimed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest and head from a blunt object.
