  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup of milk (approximately)
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for sprinkling

Step by Step

  1. In a large bowl, mix together all your dry ingredients: the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the egg, sugar and melted butter.
  3. Combine your dry ingredients well with the egg and sugar mixture.
  4. Add the milk little by little, mixing until you obtain a soft and homogeneous dough. The amount of milk may vary, so add a little more if necessary.
  5. Once you have your dough, transfer everything to a floured surface. There, begin to knead until it is smooth and elastic.
  6. Divide the dough into small portions and form into balls.
  7. With a rolling pin, stretch each ball until it forms a kind of rectangle. Divide the dough into two parts, and braid each end until you achieve the classic torn calzones shape.
  8. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  9. Fry your calzones rotos in the hot oil until golden and crispy on both sides.
  10. Remove each dough from the oil and drain your torn calzones on absorbent paper to remove excess oil. Then, sprinkle everything with powdered sugar.
