The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan issued this Monday a flood warning for the municipalities of Ceiba, Las Piedras and Naguabo, in force until 6:15 in the afternoon due to excessive rains.

At 4:17 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms, which is causing or expected to cause minor flooding in areas of poor drainage and low-lying land. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen in the area, with up to 1 additional inch expected, which will increase the risk of minor flooding.

Localities that could experience these conditions include Naguabo, Las Piedras, Ceiba, La Fermina, Aguas Claras, Roosevelt Roads, Río Blanco, Duque, Peña Pobre, Daguao and Pueblito Del Río.

The SNM advises citizens not to attempt to cross flooded roads.

“Turn and don’t drown; “The majority of flood deaths occur in vehicles,” authorities warn. It is recommended to be aware of your surroundings and avoid driving on flooded roads.
