MADERA – Authorities arrested a suspect of driving under the influence and causing an accident in Madera.

Early Sunday morning, the Madera California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a report of an accident on 12th Avenue, east of Road 37 ½.

During the investigation, it was determined that a suspect was driving a black 2010 Honda Civic at excessive speed.

He lost control of the vehicle, overturned on a dirt lot and ended up crashing into the property of a nearby residence.

The driver of the car and the passenger suffered minor injuries. The man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI).

Authorities remind drivers of the consequences of drunk driving.

“We will work together to prevent these types of accidents. Always look for safety, do not drive drunk or look for a designated driver,” the statement concludes.

The two little girls who were in the car died and the two adults remain in the UMC hospital with serious injuries.
