Video | The INE of Puebla denounces the theft of more than 2,000 electoral ballots

The Electoral Institute of the State of Puebla (IEEP) has reported this Tuesday the theft of 2,085 electoral ballots in the Valle neighborhood, east of the state capital. The ballots to elect the next governor, the deputies and new municipal councilors have been stolen from the car of the delivery man who was taking the material to the house of one of the poll presidents. The electoral body has already reported the crime to the Puebla Prosecutor’s Office. Hours later, video from a surveillance camera was released showing a man opening the car, starting it and leaving the place, where the car was unsecured and alone.

The candidate of the National Action Party (PAN) for mayor of Puebla, Mario Riestra Piña, has demanded security for electoral personnel. “I request that the INE and the IEE guarantee the safety of the personnel in charge of delivering these packages,” he has published on his X account (formerly Twitter).

Riestra Piña has also expressed that the theft is done to change the outcome of the votes. “It is incredible what happens in the entity. It would be very serious if such paperwork were attempted to be used to influence the result. Any box that presents more ballots in the ballot boxes than those delivered to voters should be opened to review the authenticity and coincidence of the paperwork,” he added.

The opposition has taken advantage of the theft of the ballots to point out Morena. “The theft of electoral ballots in Puebla is a sign of Morena’s desperation, heading towards June 2. They know that they are going to lose, that the people are tired of their bad government and that is why they resort to vile acts that do not correspond to a Mexico democratic,” Alejandro wrote on social networks. Alito Moreno, president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
