This Tuesday, the Government began the process that will advance the removal of electricity and gas subsidies for the middle class and low-income users. That is, rate increases for Level 2 (N2, low income) and Level 3 (N3, medium income) segmentation households begin.

The elimination of State aid will be gradual from June 1 to November 30 and may be extended for another six months. Thus, the Basic Energy Basket (CBE) will finally be launched.

Through Decree 465/2024, published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, the Government invites all residential users (households) to re-register in the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE), which today has three levels of segmentation .

The main objective of the “restructuring of subsidy regimes” is to transfer to users the real costs of the generation, production and imports of electrical energy and natural gas, in addition to promoting energy efficiency and focusing State resources on the population. more vulnerable.

In this way, President Javier Milei and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, will be able to move forward with the increase in rates for other segments of Argentine society, which today pay approximately 15 to 20% of the full price of gas and only 5 % of electricity. N2 and N3 households represent approximately 70% of the total and have a long way to go before they cover the real supply costs out of their own pockets.

On the other hand, the Government decides at this time whether to apply again in June an increase in electricity and gas to N1 homes, large businesses and industries that between February and April had already lost subsidies. In addition, the monthly indexation of distribution and transportation rates is pending.
