Corpac personnel are working to enable the second landing strip at the Jorge Chávez International Airport, after the failure of the air terminal’s lighting system.

On Sunday night, Corpac suspended the arrival and departure of domestic flights due to a problem with the lights at the edge of the runway.

The flights that were scheduled to arrive in Lima were diverted to alternate airports such as Pisco and Trullo.

In the Deminical Cuarto Poder program, the president of Corpac, José Luis Barrios, pointed out that the causes of the blackout on the main landing strip at the Jorge Chávez airport were due to a short circuit. He also ruled out that it was an equipment failure and assured that the operations staff was already checking the wiring to resolve the problem.

“What we have tried to take first here is the safety of the passengers, the safety of the flights. That is the most important thing for us, which is why quick actions have been taken and to resolve the problem as safely as possible,” he indicated.

On the other hand, Barrios pointed out that the second landing strip would be enabled to receive high-tonnage aircraft. Personnel from Corpac’s Operations team were addressing the failure on the main runway and at the same time were working to enable the second runway so that there was no need to divert flights to other airports.

“Operations is looking at how to open the second runway with our controllers and our people who are operating now to be able to receive larger tonnage airplanes, so that they do not go to another runway,” he told the Sunday newspaper. Fourth power.

The administration of the landing strip is the responsibility of Corpac and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
