Miguel Concha, FA pre-candidate: “After 20 years of the DC, Peñalolén requires renewal”

May 1st, Miguel Concha (RD), ceased to be the chief of staff of the presidential delegate of the RM, Constanza Martinez (CS), to become one of the main bets of the Frente Amplio (FA) in the next municipal election on October 27. But to end the two decades under Christian Democratic leadership in Peñalolén, the journalist will have to overcome the June 9 primary.

Why do you want to be mayor in Peñalolén? What are his ideas to reach this position?

For some time we have been confirming in Peñalolén that there is an exhaustion of the work that has been carried out in the last 20 years. If one looks at the trajectory of the municipality, we could say that in the last 20 years only one political party has led the space, which is the DC. That is why we believe that after 20 years of the DC, Peñalolén requires renewing leadership and ideas. And today we are presenting ideas for change that are different from the others that represent a continuity of what the municipality is today.

In what areas do you think this renewal should occur?

There are three that are fundamental within the commune. One is security, where the control and inspection capacity is increased, we have greater coordination and strength together with the different levels of the State. A second line has to do with the recovery of many streets that are currently in deterioration. The third is related to the ability to reconnect residents with work in the municipality, through greater territorial management.

Don’t you think your candidacy could benefit because the contenders are targeting the same electorate?

The last 20 years in Peñalolén have meant progress and development for the commune. Both Mayor Claudio Orrego and Mayor Carolina Leitao have managed to lead in processes that have allowed greater development, sustainability, and creating better services. But that does not prevent the fact that after 20 years of the same municipality, of the same political sign, there is exhaustion. This already happened in his time with the Concertación, where obviously a necessary alternation was generated because that is also good for democracy. We believe that we are a project for change and, therefore, we also understand the importance of this primary, where the center-left forces agree to present their idea to the citizens and thus ensure that the best project appears that can represent the center left in the October election.

What is your opinion of the current management?

Mayor Carolina Leitao is a national leader, who has much to contribute to Chile in the coming years. We also understand that every project, for a long time in power, wears out and here what we are seeing is an exhaustion and a stagnation of ideas. Without a doubt it is necessary for democracy and also for the need for new perspectives in the commune, for other leaderships to appear. And there I think it is also super important to understand that the commune has been growing in its demographic capacity. From that point of view, it is also important to include all the diversities that are present in our community, where there is also an important view of how we are going to project it for Chile in the coming years.
