The first reports indicate that Ahumada’s capture responds to a location card issued by the International Police (Interpol) at the request of the government of Mexicoso the Mexican authorities have 24 hours to request information.

Carlos Ahumada is an Argentine businessman and sports leader who has Mexican nationality. His name became known in 2004, after the dissemination of a video in which he was shown bribing public servants. The case is known as ‘Videoscandals‘.

For this reason, he is accused in Mexico of generic construction fraud from the then Federal District from 2000 to 2006; period of time governed by the current president of the Republic, López Obrador.

As a result of this fact, he was arrested in Havana, extradited to Mexico with the help of Interpol and released in 2007. In 2019 he was captured again, now in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but in that case he was released.

The ‘Videoscandalos’ case in Mexico refers to a series of videos revealed in 2004 that showed politicians and officials receiving bribes.

These videos, released by the journalist Víctor Trujillo In their program “El Mañanero”, they unleashed a major political scandal that shocked the country. The recordings mainly involved members of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI)).

The images showed Bejarano receiving large sums of money from businessman Carlos Ahumada, who was also identified as the author of the bribes. Bejarano was nicknamed “The Lord of Leagues” because of the way he collected money with rubber bands.
