Acapulco, Gro. An explosion that occurred on the esplanade of the Acapulco zócalo left at least five people injured, including two women. The explosion was reported to authorities shortly before 6 p.m.

Elements of the municipal fire department, as well as elements of the Tourist Police and the National Guard, were sent to the site. There were blood stains on the floor of the plinth, while dozens of onlookers watched as the injured were treated.

The people who were injured were taken to different hospitals in a Red Cross ambulance.

The area was cordoned off by the authorities.

Around 8:15 p.m., the municipal government issued a statement, stating that the Acapulco Public Security Secretariat was aware of an explosion that occurred in Juan Álvarez Square in the city’s main square.

Upon arriving at the point, elements of the corporation “realized that in one of the planters there were several injured people, helped on site by elements of the National Guard, so support was requested from the medical units.”

Authorities specified that four people were transferred in Red Cross ambulances to IMSS clinic 9, while a fire department ambulance transferred one more person to the general hospital in the Ciudad Renacimiento neighborhood.

According to the official report, his injuries are not serious.

Immediately, the municipal government indicated, a security operation was implemented in coordination with authorities from the three levels of government, and personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office were informed to establish the cause of the events, in addition to implementing actions. of vigilance.

This is the second explosion in the Acapulco main square during the period of the Morenoist municipal president Abelina López Rodríguez.

The first occurred on September 6, when an explosion occurred around 8 pm on the esplanade of the zócalo, near the clown show, which left three people injured.

On that occasion, authorities assured that the explosion was due to the overload of an electrical power transformer located in a planter, although testimonies indicate that the explosion was caused by a homemade device, which was thrown by unknown subjects who later escaped.
