The Spanish under 14 athletes gathered this weekend at the VIII Spanish Under 14 Individual Championship, among them three from Cantabria: Álex González, Marina Cabañeros and Mateo Zhucun Llorente. The athletes faced three tests, different depending on the triathlon in which they participated. González (Atlético Castro) was one of the protagonists of the weekend, taking gold in Triathlon E composed of 100 meters, javelin and 2,000 meters walk. In this last test he also broke the Cantabria sub 14 record.

The man from Castro achieved a final score of 1,582, twenty-one points gave him the title of Spanish Champion, beating Alejandro Navarro from Almería who finished with 1,561. The bronze went to the Galician Antón Díaz with 1,466. González’s star event was the 100 meter dash, where he not only won his series but he was the best of all the participants by stopping the clock at 10.16. In the 2,000 meter walk González was fifth with a great mark of 9:57.64, which represents a new Cantabrian under 14 record that until now was held by Rafael Zaballa with 10:14.80. Both performances, together with a best javelin throw of 24.92 meters, which led him to be seventh in the event, lifted him to the first place on the podium in the general calculation.

Marina Cabañeros (CA Olimpia – Lafuente) achieved a finalist position in triathlon C by finishing among the six best Spaniards. Gentlemen added a total of 1,770 points thanks to the partials obtained in the height, the 80 meter hurdles and the length. She especially stood out in this last test where she was third among the participants with a best jump of 5.18 meters. In the 80 meter hurdles she won her series, stopping the time at 13.16 and in height she rose to 1.42 meters.

In men’s C triathlon, Mateo Zhucun Llorente finished in thirty-second position with a total of 997 points after signing marks of 14.76 in the 80-meter hurdles, 4.72 meters in length and 1.41 meters in height.
