California, USA (Vanguardia de Veracruz).- Mourning in music for the death of the Cuban-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, Ángela Bofill, known for her hits “I Try”, “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter” and “ I’m On Your Side”, at 70 years old.

The news of her death was shared by her friend and representative, Rich Engel, to People magazine, who indicated that the singer died on Thursday at her home, with her daughter, in Vallejo, California, however the family kept a few days silent.

“Just to clear up the confusion, we are saddened, but we must report that Angela’s death yesterday is true. We thank Melba Moore and Maysa for their first condolences. Thank you all for your messages,” Rich Engel wrote on his social networks.

The cause of his death is still unknown, leaving many of his followers with questions and deep sadness.

Bofill, who is survived by her husband, Chris Portuguese, and daughter, Shauna Bofillmn, suffered two strokes in 2006 and 2007 that caused paralysis on the left side of her body.

Ángela Tomasa Bofill was born on May 3, 1954 in Brooklyn, United States. Since she was little she was exposed to Latin music, establishing herself as a great artist.

She released 10 albums throughout her career, earned a nomination for the 1984 American Music Awards in the category of Best Female R&B/Soul Artist and was part of two television programs dedicated to R&B and Jazz.

Her first album was titled ‘Angie’, reaching the top number 47 on Billboard and which brought her to fame.
