“I’m not afraid of anyone”

One week before the municipal primaries, the political scene is increasingly defined. The parties have managed to align, for the most part, their main figures behind the most prominent faces. Thus, each of the incumbent mayors already knows who is who for the October elections.

Under that line, the mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler (PC)referred to the candidate of Chile Come on, Mario Desbordesand the one supported by the Christian Social Party (PSC), Aldo Duquewho will try to snatch the municipal seat from him.

During the broadcast of the program “We Can Talk” by ChileVisiónHassler was consulted «What are you most afraid of? To the storm Desbordes or the Caribbean cyclone Aldo Duque». Laughing, the economist assured that «I’m not afraid of either of them, I’m here for a reason, I’m mayor of Santiago for a reason. (…) We are going to continue working every day, and I think that will translate into a good result in October.

He also referred to the disagreements and lack of coordination within the right that could not bring only one candidate. In this regard, he pointed out that they do not have “a project for the commune of Santiago, furthermore, there is little roots”.

In addition, he reviewed Pablo Longueira, one of the “old generals” of the UDI, who warned in February of the troubled situation that existed (or exists) in Chile Vamos, regarding the municipal elections of Santiago.

Longueira would have said within a Chile Vamos WhatsApp group that “That night there will be only one balcony of victory: The one in the Plaza de Armas. From there the feeling of victory will be created for the presidential election.

As detailed by Carolina Urrejola in Zero tolerancethe former economy minister would have added that “if all sectors of the opposition are not able to agree in a candidate to defeat the communist Irací Hassler, I don’t think we will win the presidential election in 2025”.

In this context, the mayor indicated that «Many people see Santiago as that balcony that supposedly heralds other types of elections.and the truth is that I see Santiago as a beautiful and heritage communewith many challenges, that is why we work every day for a better quality of life.
