The Matarraña honors San Juan during the shortest night of the year

The shortest night of the year has special devotion in Matarraña. A good part of its municipalities, up to the flag of visitors and second residents, They celebrated San Juan or Sant Joan, with a multitude of festive events and rituals such as fire and snails. In the case of Valderrobres and Calaceite, both municipalities celebrated the Romantic Night, within a joint program of the Association of the Most Beautiful Towns in Spain, which they helped found. There was no shortage of music and the longest kiss in the world. In the case of Valderrobres, the rain that occurred late on Saturday afternoon forced some of the events to be moved from the Church Square to the House of Culture.

Cretas was one of the municipalities in which this festival was experienced most intensely. In addition to the solemn mass and procession, accompanied by the Francisco Turull band, the Cretans enjoyed dancing and a great popular dinner. In Beceite the sports hall hosted a great party organized by the Peña Taurina and the council and which lasted until the early hours of the morning.

Different festive events were also scheduled in Arens de Lledó. A brotherhood bonfire in the municipal pavilion and the traditional Sant Joan festival were the most notable events. The municipality programmed, as is tradition in Arens, all the events during the eve of the Holy. Likewise, the El Galeró Cultural Association offered the traditional coca of Sant Joan and Mistela. A few kilometers away, in Lledó, a brotherhood dinner took place to celebrate San Juan. In Valjunquera the council organized several popular events around the Plaza Nueva on Saturday.

The festival was also commemorated in La Fresneda. The Fresnedinos enjoyed a great snack with snails, sausage and coca de San Juan. The events started in the morning with inflatables for the little ones in the municipal pools. For its part, in Peñarroya de Tastavins a night walk was held to the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuente.
