In Brazil, far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro has been charged with money laundering and criminal association in connection with undeclared diamonds he received from Saudi Arabia during his term in office. Meanwhile, President Lula has re-established a special commission to investigate crimes committed during Brazil’s military dictatorship. The commission, which was created in 1995 to investigate disappearances and other human rights violations committed between 1964 and 1985 by the military regime, had been dismantled by Bolsonaro, a former army captain who served during the military dictatorship.
