Asunción, Oct 9 (EFE).- Santos from Brazil and Olimpia from Paraguay completed this Wednesday the first qualifying spot for the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Copa Libertadores, played in Guaraní lands, and to which Corinthians also advanced on this day and Boca Juniors.
In a match valid for Group B, the Alvinegro team beat the members of the Paraguayan Decano 4-2, who, however, remained among the classified teams.
Ana Carolina Martins, Ketlen Wiggers – with a double – and Rafa Martins gave the victory to the two-time winner of the women’s Libertadores, in a match played at the Arsenio Erico stadium in the Paraguayan capital.
Olimpia, for its part, got the score going with a score from Vanessa Arce and shortened the lead of its rivals in the last breath of the match, through Amada Perales.
In this way, the team from the city of Santos added nine points after its three presentations in the tournament and was classified as the leader of the B key, while the Paraguayan Franjeado reached six points and placed second.
With the classification of Santos and Olimpia, the first matches in the quarterfinals were defined, scheduled for next October 12 in Asunción.
Corinthians, current champion of the women’s Libertadores, will face the Paraguayan club, while Santos will face the Argentine Boca Juniors.
Earlier in the day, Corinthians defeated Libertad of Paraguay 3-1 and placed themselves at the top of Group A, with seven points, the same as the Xeneize team, which the Brazilians surpassed on goal difference.
The Argentines, for their part, defeated the Academia Integral de Fútbol (Adiffem) of Venezuela by the same score, 3-1.
Libertad completed the classification of key A, with three points that left it out of the competition, and Adiffem said goodbye without victories and with 12 goals against.
Colo Colo from Chile gave the surprise this Wednesday, beating Always Ready from Bolivia with a comfortable 6-0.
Javiera Grez (with a double), María José Urrutia, Yenny Acuña (who scored another double) and Rosario Balmaceda starred in the string of goals conceded by the team from the Bolivian city of El Alto, which finished without points and with 14 scores in against.
The Santiago de Chile club finished in third place in Group B, with three points after one win and two losses.
The matches are scheduled for this Thursday, for Group C, between Independiente Santa Fe (Colombia) and Ferroviário de Brasil, and Independiente del Valle (Ecuador) and Peñarol (Uruguay).
Also playing, for key D, are Santiago Morning (Chile) and Deportivo Cali (Colombia), as well as Guaraní (Paraguay) and Alianza Lima (Peru). EFE
