During this day, individuals are invited to learn about the different ways and fields that work towards the optimal development of this state.
Was Richard C. Hunterdeputy secretary general of the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), who decided to promote this day in 1992 in order to “raise awareness in the global community about the critical agendas of mental health”. This organization brings together around 150 countries with the aim of unifying criteria and collaborating on campaigns for this purpose.
The World Health Organization (WHO) joined this day, stating that mental health It is about “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being” y “not only (of) the absence of illnesses or diseases”. Likewise, this institution maintains that promoting behaviors that take care of people’s mental health and address their needs is a key tool for suicide preventionone of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organization.
Each year a topic is chosen to address this anniversary and its many related fields. In 2024, the World Health Organization defined the motto “mental health at work”. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the essential relationship between the workplace and mental health.
Unhealthy hiring conditions, discrimination, exposure to risks, harassment and precariousness are some of the main factors that degrade the worker’s development and mental health.
