Alberto Fujimori is hospitalized, awaiting “long and risky” surgery

LIME –

Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, 85, is hospitalized in an intensive care unit, waiting for a surgery that would be “long and risky,” after a fall with a blow to the hip, according to his daughter Keiko Fujimori. on Wednesday, June 26.

The former president fractured his hip after falling in his bedroom, according to his daughter, who also said, from the Lima clinic where the former president was hospitalized, that her father needs surgery.

“He takes anticoagulants due to his heart problem and we have to wait a few days for these anticoagulants to wear off and then he can proceed to have surgery. “This surgery involves placing a complete prosthesis on the left side and then we will wait for him to recover,” Keiko Fujimori told the press.

“It is a long operation and it is a risky operation due to the illnesses that my father has, and the therapies have weakened him a lot. “She is stable,” he added.

Fujimori was convicted in 2009 by the Judiciary for massacres and corruption cases during his government (1990-2000), but he has been free since December of last year due to a pardon granted to him by former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in 2017, backed by an order from the Peruvian Constitutional Court, despite questions from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR)

On July 28, Fujimori will turn 86 years old. His daughter Keiko leads the conservative Fuerza Popular party. Recently, his father announced that he was joining that political group, which considers him its historical leader.
