BEWARE, SPOILER ALERT. Based on the novel of the same name by Perihan Mağden, “Who are we running from, mom?” (“Biz Kimden Kaçiyorduk Anne?” in its original language and “Who Were We Running From?” in English) is a Turkish thriller drama which is available on Netflix from March 24, 2023. The series directed by Umut Aral and Gökçen Usta follows a mother and her daughter Bambi as they escape from someone mysterious.
While they escape, the protagonists live in luxury hotels, they mistrust everyone, they strive to go unnoticed and they keep on the move to avoid being caught. When they leave a place they leave behind a ruckus and even a corpse. But who is after them and why?
After years of running away, the enigmatic arrives at another luxury hotel, where the curiosity of the staff and the antipathy of the owner arouse. After an incident in the restaurant, mother and daughter decide to leave. But before fleeing, the woman murders the owner for insulting Bambiwho you dress as a girl even though she is a teenager.

Who is chasing the mother and Bambi?
As they escape, the mother tells her daughter about her past. Since she was little, her family showed her contempt for her and when she got pregnant by a mechanic, her parents decided to get rid of the problem. To save the baby from her, the young woman tampered with her parents’ car.
However, she only got rid of her mother and when her baby was born she decided that the best thing for both of them was to escape. For years they have run away with the money from her inheritance, but his father does not stop looking for them because he is obsessed with getting his grandson backto.
After the protagonists of “Who are we running from, mom?” They escape from the police for the second time, they go to a bank to withdraw all their money, but things get complicated and they have to flee leaving the cash behind. When they think that all is lost, the mother remembers one last property of her mother and looks for a buyer.
Thanks to a real estate agent, she makes an appointment to sell the property, but the man waiting for her is precisely her father. Arriving at the scene, Bambi sees her grandfather’s car and alerts her mother to the trap.

The protagonists of “Who are we running from, mom?They decide to look for the old man in his own house. After confronting him, the man apologizes and offers them a briefcase full of money so they can continue escaping. However, it is a trap, since they planted a tracker and the police are after them.
Once again the duo outsmarts and places the briefcase in a car while they go to get revenge on the old man. Despite her years, the man hits her daughter and is about to suffocate her, but Bambi wakes up and brutally murders him..
Tired of the chase, the police decide that if they can’t catch them, then they will kill them. Meanwhile, mother and daughter hide out in smaller hotels and plan to rob a store to get some much-needed cash. Although she gets the loot, the mother is injured.
Bambi’s caring for her injured mother draws the attention of the lodge manager, so he calls the police. The duo try to escape as usual, but her mother’s injury prevents them from doing so. When the officers catch up with them, her mother tells her daughter to run, while she stays behind to distract the officers. The captain shoots, the mother is killed, and Bambi disappears.
“Who are we running from, mom?” It ends like the novel “Bambi, a life in the woods” from 1923 that the protagonists always read. But the mother’s death is only half the story, so it’s possible that Bambi’s adventures will continue in a second season.
