Moscow, April 4 (EFE).- The Kremlin declared today that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, “remains open to dialogue,” but that there are no plans for contact with his French counterpart, Emmamuel Macron, after the telephone conversation they had the day before the defense ministers of their countries.

“President Putin remains open to dialogue with those who express interest in developing relations with our country,” Russian Presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov said in his daily telephone press conference.

He reiterated that the president “is always open to dialogue to resolve the most complex global and regional problems,” but added that “there are currently no plans to hold contacts at the highest level.”

Peskov thus responded to the question of whether contacts are planned between Putin and Macron after the conversation held on Wednesday by their Defense Ministers, Sergei Shoigu and Sébastien Lecornu, respectively.

In the first official contact between ministerial officials in a year and a half, Lecornu expressed to his Russian counterpart France’s “readiness” to talk to Moscow about the fight against international terrorism, according to the statement from the French Ministry of Defense.

“France does not have any information that would allow establishing a link between this attack and Ukraine. We ask Russia to stop manipulating,” adds the statement about the terrorist attack that killed 145 people at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow on March 22. and that was claimed by the Islamic State.

Furthermore, the French minister emphasized his disapproval “without reservation of the war of aggression that Russia is carrying out in Ukraine.”

Lecornu stressed that “France will continue to support Ukraine all the time and with the intensity necessary in the fight for its freedom and sovereignty, with the goal of bringing peace and security to the European continent,” explained the French Ministry of Defense. EFE
