Vladimir Putin was sworn in this Tuesday (05/07/2024) in a lavish ceremony in the Kremlin, which begins his fifth term as president of Russia, where he enjoys unprecedented power in the face of a suffocated opposition.

Putin, 71, took the oath of office with his right hand on a copy of the Constitution, which he reformed in 2020 to eliminate the legal obstacle that prevented him from remaining in the Kremlin.

“In the exercise of the powers of the President of the Russian Federation, I swear to respect and protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, to comply with and defend the Constitution, to protect the sovereignty and independence, security and integrity of the State, faithfully serve the people,” he said.

Likewise, he offered dialogue to the West on security and strategic stability, although he defended the creation of a new world order. “We do not reject dialogue with Western countries. It depends on them,” he said after taking the oath of office.

Putin, in power since 2000, was sworn into office escorted by the heads of the Duma or chamber of deputies and the Federation Council or Senate.

In this way, Putin, who was re-elected on March 17 with a historic result of more than 87% of the votes, will be able to remain at the head of the Kremlin until 2030, which would add 30 years in power.
