The supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khameneipresided this Saturday at a commemoration ceremony for the country’s deceased president Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran, and emphasized that the massive participation of Iranians in the funeral events in recent days is a show of support for the Islamic Republic.

“Raisi relied on the slogans of the revolution and the words of the Imam (Ruholah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic) from the beginning, when he began campaigning for the elections, and the whole world knew him as the president of the Islamic Republic. revolution”Khamenei stated in his speech before hundreds of people, including the country’s political and military authorities, present at the ‘Hoseinie of Imam Khomeini’, in the south of Tehran, the IRNA agency reported.

“The magnificent funerals showed that the Iranian nation is alive”Khamenei said when referring to the massive participation of Iranians in the funeral ceremonies of Raisí and his seven companions who died in the helicopter accident on Sunday.

Thus he rejected the “propaganda and claims by enemies that the people have distanced themselves from the Islamic Republic”.

“This incident, before the eyes of the world and in practice, demonstrated the attachment and loyalty of the Iranian nation to the president and those who materialize the slogans of the revolution”said the Iranian leader during the commemoration event, which was also attended by a dozen ambassadors and representatives of foreign countries.

In Iran, public rallies have great political and social importance since they were one of the decisive factors in the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Iran buried its late ultra-conservative president on Thursday in an important religious mausoleum in the city of Mashad, on the third day of massive funerals that included a reception attended by delegations from some 60 countries.

Raisí had become president of Iran in 2021, by winning the elections that had 48% participation, the lowest in a presidential election in the history of the Islamic Republic.

During his mandate, repression against critics, activists and journalists, and especially against women for the lack of wearing the veil, intensified, which caused the largest protests against the Islamic Republic in years and which resulted in 500 deaths.

Raisi died on Sunday along with the Foreign Minister, Hosein Amir Abdolahianand six other passengers in a helicopter accident in the northwest of the country, for reasons that have not yet been explained.

A huge crowd took to the streets of Mashad today to say goodbye to the ultra-conservative 63-year-old president in a procession that lasted several hours, as shown on local television.

The mayor of Mashad, Mohammad Reza Ghalandar Sharifestimated the number of attendees at three millionaccording to the agency Mehr.

After hours of processions, Raisi was buried in the Iman Reza mausoleum, the eighth imam of Shiism, the most important religious place in the country.
