The Montevideo internal mayor, Mauricio Zunino, told Prensa Latina that the objective of promoting this capital as an international meeting place is fulfilled with this forum, which culminates this day.

Zunino praised the participation of embassies from several countries accredited here, including those of Cuba, which gave color and expanded the tourist offer, in an event that promoted technological advances in favor of the so-called leisure industry.

The venue could not have been better, the Antel Arena, a majestic and modern facility, conceived as a multipurpose building to host exhibitions and massive sporting and cultural events, among others. Delfina Do Nascimiento, vice consul of the Angolan embassy here, served as an interlocutor among those who were interested in the exhibition of her country.

She told Prensa Latina that this diplomatic mission is the only one in Africa that provides consular services in Uruguay.

Therefore, it is important that we are represented here with our culture, natural resources and the impressive geography of Angola, he said.

In turn, the Guatemalan ambassador, Hebert Estuardo, appreciated the opportunity to exhibit attributes of his nation, in particular coffee, for which they brought their national champion barista (kind of sommelier of the aromatic drink) José Miguel Echeverría.

The coffee expert won this year’s national barista championship in his country, and then represented it in the world competition held in Busan, South Korea.

Estuardo pointed out that the idea is to promote trips to the Central American nation and link them to one of its main traditional products, with great demand in Asia and other nations.

Next to the Guatemalan site, the Cuban stand was highly visited, with the latest promotions of the Única campaign, which defines the destination of the Antillean country as a historical, cultural, musical and beach reference, among other benefits.

The Cuban ambassador, Zulan Popa, received there the mayor of Montevideo and the mayor of the department of Canelones, Marcelo Metediera, in addition to ambassadors and personalities from the cultural, social and political life of this South American country.

This first Fair on Smart Tourism Destinations is projected on the history of Montevideo, architecture, museums, music, gastronomy, crafts, cultural manifestations and the integration of migrants.

It is an effort by the departmental administration with the participation of public and private entities, the Academy, civil society and the Ministry of Tourism, among other national and foreign actors.
