A young man ended up in the operating room for biting his nails. It turns out that he contracted a very dangerous bacteria that forced him to undergo open heart surgery to continue living.
Mario Colomina is a native of Barcelona, Spain, and some time ago he had to face an extreme situation due to a bad habit that he continues to have to this day. “I still eat them despite everything”he said in an interview.

The young man told his story through a TikTok video that he published on the @mariaymarioo account, where he shares content with his girlfriend. The clip quickly went viral because of how strange the anecdote sounds.
“I had heart surgery for biting my nails. I contracted the bacteria from my nails, there is a bacteria there called Staphylococcus aureus that I it seeped through my skin and it made a nidus in my mitral valve,” he recently revealed about the serious health problem he went through ten years ago.
Mario bit his nails so much that he hurt himself the skin and through that wound, the bacteria lives both in the mucous membranes and in the skin of human beings, it managed to enter the bloodstream. His story caught attention because many people in the world have this habit, but few know the risks of doing it.

“Every time my heart pumped I spread it all over my body. I had embolisms in my brain, kidneys and spleen.. They had to put me on medication, that didn’t make it any better and in the end it became so big that they had to change my valve,” he detailed about his process.
Symptoms that told you something was wrong
Mario said that at a meeting with friends he began to feel unwell, accompanied by a high fever and vomiting. At that moment he decided to go to a medical ward, there they told him that he had angina and they prescribed medicine, he said in an interview with Antena 3.

The medications did not relieve his discomfort and even added more symptoms. From one moment to another, his left leg became immobile and returned to the hospital. “As a result of that, they took my blood, they did a blood culture and they saw that I had the nidus, the bacteria, and not the angina or a tumor,” she explained.
Continue with the bad habit
The young man revealed that despite having gone through a very difficult time and knowing that his life was at risk for biting his nails, he was unable to stop doing it. “They ask me if I have stopped eating them and the answer is no, I keep eating them despite everything“I’m very nervous, I put my hands in my mouth, which is a mistake that many Spaniards make,” he confessed.
Mario tried every possible way, but he couldn’t give it up. “Despite this I have not stopped eating them and look, I have tried everything, I have tried spicy, bitter, everything“, revealed.
However, through his story, he tried to make other people aware of the risks of this bad habit: “Stop biting your nails if you don’t want to end up like this,” he said at the end of the TikTok video, while showing the scar on the chest which left him with open heart surgery.
