“The Battle of Carabobo for us, beyond a military feat, represents an itinerary in the entire independence process of Venezuela,” said Major General Ríchard Riera, Defense Attaché of the Venezuelan embassy in the Plurinational State, in reference to the feat accomplished on June 24, 1821.

During the event held in the square named after El Libertador at the Simón Rodríguez Cultural Center at the headquarters of the Venezuelan diplomatic legation, Riera thanked the large presence on behalf of the ambassador, César Trómpiz, and the charge d’affaires, Lenin Contreras .

“We, the officers of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), cannot do anything other than honor the sacrifice of the men and women who participated in the independence struggle,” he expressed.

Before the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia Élmer Catarina, senior military officials from Bolivia and Venezuela, an academic delegation from the Institute of Strategic Operational Studies of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and a broad representation of the accredited diplomatic corps, the general quoted the president’s words, Nicolás Maduro.

“The Venezuelan people in civic-military union and gathered around the leadership of the Liberator Simón Bolívar raised the republican project of equality and independence or nothing,” said the president on the occasion of the bicentennial of the great victory of Carabobo.

On behalf of the FANB officers, Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Lamar spoke, who highlighted that the victory achieved under the orders of Bolívar was the culminating point of the Venezuelan independence feat and gave way to the Southern Campaign, which led to the independence of this entire region.

In turn, Vice Minister Catarina highlighted the military genius of Bolívar, who in his 47 years of life participated in hundreds of battles and only lost six.

He highlighted that a date like this establishes for Latin Americans the commitment to follow the example of The Liberator in the decision to fight for freedom and self-determination.

Highlighting the visit of a large academic delegation from the Venezuelan Military Institute, the vice president stressed that it is an exchange between officers from sister nations.
