Two works by Pablo Gargallo leave Zaragoza for the Prado Museum

Two works by Pablo Gargallo pack their bags and change addresses for a few months. The pieces ‘In the trough’ (bronze, 1898) and ‘The humble’ (wood, 1904) travel to Madrid to participate in the exhibition ‘Art and social transformations in Spain (1885-1910)’, organized by the Prado Museum , and what sIt can be visited in the exhibition halls of the Jerónimos Building between May 21 and September 22.

This loan continues to highlight the interest in the sculptor in the most important museums in the world, after the visit last year of the work ‘The Couple’ (bronze, 1904) in the National Gallery in London and the ‘Picasso Mask’ (bronze, 1913) to the Palau Foundation (Caldes d’Estrac, Barcelona).

On the morning of this Friday, April 26, both creations left for the Spanish capital so that they can be admired in an exhibition curated by Javier Barón, head of conservation of 19th century Painting at the Prado Museum, in which he aims to analyze and disseminate the transformations of Spanish art as a consequence of the changes in society at the time.

Although the main core of the exhibition is made up of the museum’s own collection, they wanted to include the work of Pablo Gargallo because, in the words of its director Miguel Falomir, “In this first stage, he shows his interpretation, expressive and original.” That is why its presence in the section of the exhibition dedicated to Poverty and social marginalization is “very important.”
