Description submitted by the project team. Located in the Botanical Garden, 20 minutes from Brasilia, Casa Papillon is a house built in 2019 that features the large hipped roof that guides the entire project. The concept arose from a desire of the clients: to evoke traditional houses with colonial roofs, but without losing their contemporaneity. This desire was also materialized through the use of coverings such as bricks and wooden boards on the roof. On the other hand, the metal structure and the glass enclosures provide contemporaneity to the project.

The pedestrian is welcomed by an entrance garden, which in turn is framed by gables and lattices with horizontal slats that establish a dialogue between the external and the internal.

If the roof is the protagonist, the secondary one would be the vertical expansion of the “living” space. The pitch of the Shingle shingle-clad roof allowed for the creation of an intimate second-floor TV room, connected to the social lounge via the mezzanine. These two spaces serve as intermediaries between the intimate and social sectors of the house.

The axis of the intimate area is distributed along the left part of the land. The hallway to the rooms that overlooks the pool is protected by a vertical garden that functions as a muxarabi, sheltering the interior without obstructing the exterior view. The void resulting from the positioning of the intimate block gives rise to the continuation of the social and leisure space, creating a large plaza that extends back to the mezzanine to receive visitors and at the same time enjoy the view intimately on a daily basis. .

In this way, the residence not only satisfies the needs and desires of the residents, but also inserts itself respectfully and elegantly into its context, becoming an example of architecture that dialogues with history and the present.
