“The process was magical, a spell.” Luis Eduardo Arenas Reátegui learned the arts of photographic development at a very young age. “You went into a dark room where you developed the film through a process that involved temperatures, times… However, the exciting thing was seeing how that image turned into paper,” he comments on the trade he learned from his mother, Maria del Pilar. The end of the millennium soon arrived and, with it, the entire technological boom. Print became digital and the changes were not only new, but necessary. The development center became a digital image printing studio. Luis Eduardo saw that every change also brought an opportunity. He started like this Flash Laba business he has been with for more than two decades.

“We welcome artists. We also do work for cultural centers that prepare samples or exhibitions, as well as companies that want to decorate their facilities with high-quality images,” says Arenas while showing us the framed works that have turned his studio into a kind of art gallery. From portraits to images generated by artificial intelligence, each painting frames a story.

The difference between seeing something on a screen and observing it, touching the paper with your hands? Here the key word is contemplation, explains Arenas. “Print evokes something more artistic, it takes you to meditation, to create sensations,” he adds. And he even gives a tip: “If you are going to be lucky enough to print, you have to choose well.”
