Raquel Castro returns to El Rinconcito with the colorful nostalgia of “Kodak en Lienzo”

After almost two years, Raquel Castro returns to illuminate the walls of El Rinconcito with the color and optimism of her work. “Kodak on canvas” is the exhibition that the artist inaugurated this Friday in the emblematic tavern. She shows us a dozen acrylics on canvas in which she emphasizes the intimate nostalgia of family photographs.

Raquel Castro interprets the photos that her mother—taken with a Kodak camera, hence the title of the exhibition—took of the family. The paintings fundamentally collect family scenes and of any person who has stood in front of the artist’s mother’s camera “who I have transferred to the canvas.”

The artist has been maturing her style since the last time she hung it in the emblematic tavern, in the previous exhibition “those paintings tended more towards abstraction, now I bring clearly figurative works.” Raquel Castro confesses that “after doing so much abstraction, she felt that she had to return to figuration and drawing.” She has also had to do with the change in the painter’s artistic conception the fact that “I have been commissioned based on a portrait that I uploaded to social networks, which is in this exhibition.”

Nostalgia transcends in “Kodak on Canvas” since Raquel Castro has “a lot of appreciation for my family. Whenever I have wanted to paint them they have never let me, these works are done a little strangely, without them knowing”

He doesn’t want to “do pure realism,” he says, and to make it look 100% like the model, “I tend towards colour and stains. In my colour palette, black is not present.” And, above all, “I love drawing people, even if it’s just four stains that look like a person.”

Raquel Durán tells us that she has put her Fine Arts degree on hold “and I am studying concept art for video games.” And meanwhile, “I have kept the painting”, in fact, the artist participated with a painting in the last Virgen de las Viñas Cultural Contest “I have the work for sale, for someone very special. It is a painting that I am very fond of, there is a part of my grandparents’ house, with a lot of color.
