Book Day 2024: why it is celebrated and what activities are carried out in the Metropolitan region (with free books)

Reading is one of the actions that accompanies millions of people in their daily lives, even more so when today it benefits from the multiple platforms we have. AND, like every April 23literature takes center stage of the day in a new Day of the book.

But, Why was this day chosen to celebrate it? The international celebration would coincide with the date of death of three great authors of universal literature: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

It is for this reason, and as a tribute, that in nineteen ninety five the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCOmade the commemoration official, establishing the April 23 as the festival to promote reading and to protect copyright.

Book Day: activities in the Metropolitan region

For this day, a series of events and activities will take place in the Metropolitan region for him Day of the book, for the entire public that you cannot miss. These are:

  • Free books at Santiago Metro stations:

In alliance with the Zig-Zag PublishingMetro de Santiago will give away books in three instances: 1) they will be delivered 300 copies at the Quilicura terminal station of Line 3, 2) 2 will be given00 copies at the University of Chile also from Line 3 and 3) users can enter the website “The trip is better with a book”which has free readings that can be viewed on any device.

  • Release of books from the University of Chile:

The University of Chile will carry out a massive release of books in front of its Headquarters during midday, where more than 1,500 copies will be distributed free of charge among passersby, with a limit of two books per person.

  • Release of Pirque Library books:

The Pirque Library (located at Carlos Vial Infante 171) will carry out a free book release, where you can carry up to three copies. To be part of the activity, You must be registered in the Library.

  • Bibliometro Story and Poetry Contest:

The call will be made for 7th Bibliometer Story and Poetry Contestin which the central theme will revolve around the childhood and adolescence experiences. The event will take place at the Baquedano Bibliometer from noon.

  • Book Festival in Las Condes:

This weekend, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., a new edition of the Book Festival 2024 at the Las Condes Cultural Center (located at Av. Apoquindo 6570).

  • Activities organized by the municipalities: Several municipalities will organize activities in their respective communities for this day and the weekend, those that can be reviewed on their social networks.
