Water and Riachuelo: from the Book Fair to the classrooms | Buenos Aires City

The City Government stand in the Yellow Pavilion was the meeting point where City teachers learned about the Water Librarywithin the framework of the 48th edition of the International Book Fair, in La Rural.

This initiative, developed by the Ministry of Education with the support of the Ministry of City Infrastructure, proposes to strengthen the educational focus on the care of water as a vital good in our society and for life on the planet.

To collaborate with the achievement of this objective, the Water Library was developed, developed by the Global Citizenship Program, belonging to the Education for Sustainability Operational Management. This collection of innovative educational resources provides tools and content to learn and develop habits that promote the care, responsible use and enjoyment of water in the City from Buenos Aires. The Library provides teachers with comprehensive proposals to address these topics in the classroom, according to the educational level.

As part of the 21 didactic sequences that make up the library are the booklet «Water and Riachuelo: a new look at the river» and the brochure “My Beloved Stream”content generated from the Green Schools Program.

These two resources invite us to delve deeper into water as an essential natural good for life, focusing on the problem of Matanza Riachuelo Basinits original landscape, the causes of its pollution, the population that inhabits and inhabited its territory and the historical processes that triggered its current situation.

In addition to these contents, the Water Library is integrated with various didactic sequences with booklets for teachers and students, along with interactive resources, immersive experiences, programming and robotics proposals, augmented reality and educational video games, designed for Primary Level and Secondary Level.

Each material has been carefully crafted to promote construction of teaching and learning processes significant that encourage reflection on the challenges associated with climate change.

You can see and download the Water Library in the following links according to the educational level:

This type of content for schools constitutes fundamental tools to address one of the most important challenges that cities have for the coming years: water management. There is less and less water available for consumption due to climate change, its pollution and its indiscriminate use, so it is vital that we all take measures to take care of it.

Education is the way so that children and adolescents understand the importance of this fundamental natural resource for the well-being of all living beings.
