Much was written and talked about about Diego Armando Maradona’s positive doping in the 1994 World Cup in the United States. The victory against Nigeria, the nurse who takes the 10 by the hand for the post-match control, the news that FIFA later confirmed, the phrase that the Ten left for posterity (“They cut off my legs”) and the subsequent elimination in the round of 16 of that Argentine National Team led by Coco Basile.

These days, 30 years after that historic event for Argentine and world football, a new book has just been released on the subject. But unlike other texts that delve into the event itself, this new work focuses on the repercussions of the case. It is called “The day they cut off our legs” and it is written by journalists Martín Olivé and Gonzalo Penas.

The new book on Maradona’s positive doping in USA 94.

The book, which has a prologue written by Fernando Signorini and is sold in ebook format, delves into how the different journalistic media in Argentina reported the events and how people experienced it (from journalists to teenagers who went to school), with personal memories of more than 50 personalities from the media, sports and culture to have a fairly broad spectrum of the meaning and impact of the case.

Finally, the authors also focus on the vision of Argentina’s rivals in the World Cup. They compiled bibliography and journalistic notes from newspapers in Australia, Greece, Nigeria, Bulgaria and Romania, in addition to interviewing journalists of those nationalities who covered the World Cup to get a first-hand idea of how it had an impact there, what they felt and how they themselves took it. protagonists (there are very curious details about the reaction of Hagi or the Nigerian footballer who went to doping with Diego and did not dare to exchange shirts with him).
