The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quijote of La Mancha (1605), is the best-known book by the Madrid playwright Miguel de Cervantes Saavedrawhich he dedicated to the Duke of Béjar, Marquis of Gibraleón. This work of universal literature has only been surpassed by The Bible, Well, Don Quixote, translated into 50 languages, is the most published book in history, of which more than 500 million copies have been made.
And this town of Huelva appears on the first page because The Duke of Béjar and Marquis of Gibraleón, Francisco III Diego López Zúñiga Sotomayor y Mendoza, a patron who financed the first part of the work by Miguel de Cervantes. His remains rest in the town of Gibraleón since 2012, by the Marquis’ own wish in his will.
Cervantes was born on September 29, 1547, and Gibraleón held the I Cervantina Fair for the first time in 2022 in honor of the novelist, poet and playwright from Madrid. After the success of the first edition, its second edition was also held last September 2023, the II Cervantina Fair in the Alcázar-Castle of Gibraleón.
