He Guerrero writer Said Vladimir Ramírez will present his second book “The terrible blues of Guayaquil” in the space Cafe La Fauna he next June 25 at 5:00 p.m., Free entry. This work that he just published last month and that generates an interesting cultural exchange between Mexico and Ecuador.
In an interview, Said Ramírez tells us how this book came about and his experience in Ecuador, a country that he knew through its literature and its writers, who were of great inspiration, and later having the opportunity to visit it and work on his thesis there.
“The book began to take shape after I went on an international research stay in 2019. I was studying my postgraduate degree and working on a thesis on the novel ‘The Small Statures’, by the Ecuadorian writer Alfredo Pareja Diezcanseco, published in 1970. A From that, I contacted a university in Ecuador and sent my project, they accepted it, I won a scholarship and I traveled there with the aim of working on my thesis and the cognitive process of getting to know the country. I had consumed a lot of Ecuadorian literature, but being able to be there and that clash of cultures and history, seeing and feeling the country was quite an experience that left me totally fascinated”said Said Vladimir Ramírez.
Likewise, he highlighted that the book that dialogues between literature, photography and bluesgenerating an interesting interrelation of the arts.
“I play with the word blues and exploit all its symbolic value, the blues of painting, of cyanotype, of music and of the demons of melancholy that invade the protagonist (doubts, problems and emotional breakdowns). And it is the fact of working on the aesthetics of the hinge writer, because the book has two sides, one is Mexico and the other is Ecuador and the hinge is the writer’s life experience.”.
What is your book about?
This book it’s a novel that explores a relationship between two Latin American countries and that tells us the story of a Mexican photographer who is asked to create a photobook of the city of Guayaquil and the postcards that he builds can be had by the reader through the object book format.
“It is an object book that is made up of a short novel and 15 more texts, which are short stories, long stories and micro-stories. It comes in its case with the book and a postcard, in total there are 16 postcards, so some people see it as a collection”.
Said highlighted that it is very interesting that this book is published at a time when Mexico and Ecuador are going through an unprecedented diplomatic situation, and above all that It is a book set in Ecuador written by a Mexican.
Previously, Said has presented this book in CDMX in places such as the Telegraph Museum; and it would also be presented at the Ecuadorian Embassy in Mexico, but it was not achieved since it was at the time that its facilities closed.
“I consider that it is necessary to create this type of cosmopolitan literature to understand that Latin America is a conglomerate of brother countries, and that we must be in unity, solidarity and that does not give a link”.
More about the author’s career
Said Ramírez is a writer and also completed a master’s degree in Humanities. His first book is titled “How to Hunt the Tiger” which also addresses an Ecuadorian topic, but in a different way.
“It was at the age of 14 when I became interested in writing, I got a book and I liked it, and that’s how I continued until I decided to study literature and start writing. And especially, my taste for Ecuadorian literature arises from an anthology of Hispanic American stories from the Economic Culture Fund.”.
The author will present his work for the first time in Cuernavaca and invites the public to accompany him in this special presentation, where they will have the opportunity to acquire the work.
