DIARIO DEL HUILA, CULTURE

With the participation of five prominent Huila publishers, the festival promises to be a vibrant space for the conservation of cultural identity through a varied academic and artistic agenda.

The festival has as one of its main objectives the promotion and conservation of Huila’s cultural identity. The participating publishers have prepared a series of activities that seek to highlight the importance of literature and art in the formation and strengthening of regional identity. These publishers, recognized for their commitment to local culture, will present works by Huila authors, both classic and contemporary, offering a platform for their voices to be heard and valued.

Variety of academic and cultural activities

The festival agenda includes a wide range of academic and cultural activities designed to attract diverse audiences. Among them are book exhibitions, discussions and reading projects, all aimed at fostering a love of literature and art. The book exhibitions will offer attendees the opportunity to learn about and acquire works by Huila authors, while the conversations will provide a space for discussion and exchange of ideas on literary and cultural topics.

1. Book Exhibitions: During the festival, several book exhibitions will be held at the Olegario Rivera Departmental Library. These exhibitions will include works by local authors, as well as writers of national and international renown. Attendees will be able to explore a wide range of genres, from poetry and narrative to research and essays.

2. Conversations: The conversations will be one of the highlights of the festival. In these spaces for dialogue, writers, academics and readers will meet to discuss various topics related to Huilense literature and culture. Some of the planned topics include the influence of “La Vorágine” on Colombian literature, the evolution of regional narrative and the importance of preserving cultural traditions through literature.

3. Reading Projects: To encourage reading among young people and adults, the festival will include a series of reading projects. These projects are designed to engage the community in shared reading activities, literary workshops, and book clubs. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their favorite books, share recommendations and discover new works.

Centenary of “The Vortex”

The festival is celebrated within the framework of the Centennial of “La Vorágine”, one of the most important novels in Colombian literature, written by José Eustasio Rivera from Huila. This work, which narrates the life of rubber tappers in the Amazon, is a denunciation of the inhuman conditions in which the workers lived and a deep exploration of the Colombian jungle. The centenary of this work is an ideal occasion to reflect on its legacy and its relevance today.

During the festival, several activities dedicated to “La Vorágine” will take place. These include readings aloud of passages from the novel, lectures on its impact on Colombian literature and society, and writing workshops inspired by Rivera’s work. In addition, new editions of the novel and critical studies that offer new perspectives on this classic work will be presented.

The festival will have a varied agenda.
