The new Kia K3 made its debut in Mexico as the successor to the Rio and not the larger Forte (also known as the Cerato), which is also sold in the country.
In the past, K3 was the alternative name for Cerato and Forte, but it seems that the South Korean automaker has chosen to reorganize the names of its models, at least in Mexico and Colombia.
We should also note that the change to an alphanumeric designation for the Rio is reminiscent of what happened with the Optima (now known simply as the K5) and opens questions about what the next generation Forte/Cerato will be called.
Is K3 Cross a sedan? The K3 is initially presented as a four-door sedan, and Mexican media reports that a five-door hatchback will appear later. The previous, fourth-generation Rio was also offered in the same body styles.
In terms of engines, the K3 will be available with a 1.6-liter, 123 HP inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that can be combined with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
Standard safety features for the K3 are six airbags, ABS and ESC, with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) available on select trims.
Some of the ADAS technologies offered include forward collision preventionlane keep assist, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic collision avoidance assist, and driver attention warning.
Other similarities to the EV6 is the steering wheel design, while notable features include 64-colour ambient lighting, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, two-device Bluetooth pairing and USB-C ports.
The K3 will be produced in Nuevo León, Mexico and sold in select markets. Reports indicate that the Rio has been discontinued in markets such as Europe, North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa, so the K3 will be aimed at developing markets such as Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
