Ankara (EFE).- The Turkish company Getir, which offers fast deliveries of home food and household products, announced this Monday that it is withdrawing from the markets of Europe and the United States, where 7% of its turnover is generated. to focus its activity in Turkey.

The company has announced that it is ceasing its activity in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States, although it will continue to operate in this country through its subsidiary FreshDirect.

“Today is a sad day for Getir. We will abandon the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States. Many, many thanks to all our employees who have contributed,” Getir CEO Nazım Salur said on social network X.
Getir had already made public his withdrawal from Spain, Italy and Portugal last July.

Getir laid off 14% of its workforce in Türkiye in 2022

In 2022, the company laid off 14% of its workforce in Turkey due to high inflation.

The company, founded in Istanbul in 2015, has expressed its intention to concentrate on Turkey, where its main market is and where it assures there is capacity for growth.

Getir points out that it is negotiating new financing avenues to achieve that goal.
