The sector of hostelry He is often the protagonist in controversies of all kinds. The difficulties in finding trained personnel, the often questionable working conditions or the endless work days are some of the most frequent topics. At the same time, it is common to find complaints from customers who, through their reviews, praise or criticize the work of hoteliers and waiters, sometimes without even having tried the restaurant’s cuisine.

The main speaker of this type of controversies in our country is the influencer Jesus Soriano. This hospitality employee is successful on his social networks under the name I’m a waiter, a social media account where he shares complaints from hospitality workers. Most of his publications focus on customer reactions or abusive job offers, although he also occasionally analyzes the reviews that restaurants receive through different portals.

One of his latest posts on X (formerly Twitter), which has reached hundreds of retweets and tens of thousands of views, he talked about precisely one of them, a negative review that has generated rejection from many users. The situation that said comment was about took place on May 1, International Workers’ Day and non-working hours in Spain.

“This morning it was closed, but this morning, when I go to have coffee and eat something, I find that it is still closed,” began the review, which the tweeter described as a lack of “empathy.” “It puts a sign on the door: ‘Closed for the worker’s holiday’ and it also says that On Sundays and holidays it is closed for staff rest. If you already have Sunday to rest, I think that less rest and more servicesince it is located at the foot of the road,” continued the comment, which accompanied a one-star rating.

The response from the owner of this place has not been long in coming. “We close on Sundays, the only holiday we close is Labor Day, and we already consider the rest that both the owners and my workers need…”, begins the restaurant’s response. “Less labor exploitation and a little quality of life… We consider that we work hard and provide good service from 6 in the morning until 11 at night. Greetings and thank you very much,” she concludes. The response has been highly applauded among more than 150,000 followers which has the @soycamarero account, with dozens of comments providing their opinions on the issue.

“We are all supportive of the employees until it is closing time at the bar, then we forget about the workers because we are so comfortable…” commented one user, while others described this review as “egocentric” and “selfish”. “Sometimes people forget that restaurant establishments are still private businesses and that they have the right to determine their work regime,” added another user.
