The National Administrative Department of Statistics, Dane, revealed this Wednesday the inflation figures for April. Inflation was expected to decline again, marking 13 months of consecutive declines.

According to one expectations survey carried out by Citibank to 26 analysts and economic research centers, April inflation was expected to decrease from 7.36% to 7.15% on average.

The highest expectations come from Grupo Bancolombia (7.30%)Banco de Bogotá (7.25%), BTG Pactual (7.24%) and a tie between Banco Santander, Bbva and Colfondos (7.20%).

On the other hand, The lowest projections are from Skandia and Axa Colpatria, with 7.01%followed by Banco Agrario (7.02%), Alianza (7.08%) and Anif (7.10%).

If expectations of 7.15% inflation in April are metthe figure would be reduced by only 22 basis points, below the average drop of 49 basis points that has been maintained over the last year.

The adjustment of the CPI by income

For high incomes, the annual variation of the CPI increased 7.56%, in the middle class, 7.16%; vulnerable, 6.72%, and poor, 6.33%.

The CPI without food registered 8.19%, a decrease of 28.84% compared to the fourth month of 2023.

This is how it went in the main cities

Valledupar (9.35%), Sincelejo (8.69%) and Riohacha (8.69%) were the cities with the highest inflation in April.

Bogotá, for its part, registered below annual inflation, with 7.11%.

For April, the cities of Villavicencio (5.36%), Popayán (5.48%) and Neiva (6.09%) are the cities with the lowest inflation.

The largest contributions to the annual data

Education (11.40 pp), transportation (10.42 pp) and restaurants and hotels (9.80 pp) are the spending divisions that contributed the most to the annual CPI data.

This is how the monthly variation fared

For its part, the monthly variation of the CPI was 0.59%.

The monthly variation was led by food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.16%); accommodation, water and electricity (0.93%), and miscellaneous goods and services (0.48%).

With the April data, 13 months of correction in the cost of living of Colombians were completed, after the peak of 13.34% (March 2023)
