The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) issued an alert about the fraudulent sale of Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT).

The entity warns citizens about unscrupulous people who use pages website and social networks such as Facebook, WhatsApp, text messages and emails to offer this insurance with “discounts of up to 50%.”

These fraudulent ads request transfers to accounts at Bancolombia, Nequi, Daviplata and through QR codes, which is an indication of illegal activities. The MinTIC emphasizes that the SOAT cannot be acquired this way and emphasizes the importance of taking precautions when purchasing this policy.

To avoid falling for these scams, the Ministry of ICT recommends that citizens follow these tips:

1. Verify the authenticity of the web pages and advertisements that offer SOAT.

2. Do not trust unauthorized discounts.

3. Make the purchase only through official and authorized insurer channels, or by contacting a trusted advisor.

4. Avoid making payments to third parties through transfers.

5. Do not deliver codes, keys or passwords through social networks, especially if the authenticity of the recipient has not been verified.

6. Do not provide personal information without confirming the authenticity of the page who requests it.

The MinTIC highlighted that everyone’s collaboration is crucial to prevent these scams. If anyone suspects attempted fraud or isfa, it is recommended to take the necessary preventive measures and, if applicable, inform the competent authorities.

This alert is part of the Ministry’s continuous efforts to protect citizens and guarantee security in digital transactions.

The fraudulent sale of SOAT not only affects the victims financially, but also puts their road safety at risk. by not having a valid policy in case of accidents.
