In recent years we have seen strong progress in companies of great global relevance that are betting on hydrogen as a clean fuel for their new models. We have even seen the presentation of the innovative zero-emission Spanish ship that uses a hydrogen fuel cell. However, this new engine could power heavy vehicles using organic waste as fuel.

A new engine: fuel made from waste

The idea of achieving a circular economy that allows us to produce without generating waste or greenhouse gas emissions has ceased to be a utopia and has become the first necessity of our society. Companies and institutions around the world are developing new renewable sources of energy, as well as more efficient technologies to recover industry byproducts.

However, in the automotive industry it is very difficult to develop efficient waste recovery methods so that this sector can adapt to the circular economy in the short term. Both hydrogen and electric engines require extraction processes for the different components of their energy sources that, at certain stages, emit greenhouse gases into the environment.

That is why the BeGas company has developed a new four-cylinder engine for heavy urban vehicles that will run on autogas and bioautogas. Its about B430LG enginewhich has four cylinders and features similar to those of any traditional diesel engine for urban environments such as public transport and logistics.

A heavy engine and up to 90% less emissions

The B430LG offers a wide variety of advantages over the engines regularly used in this type of vehicle. One of the main characteristics is the high quality of the materials and components. This in itself offers a significant increase in efficiency and durability, which reduces maintenance and, with it, an important source of expenses for manufacturers and users.

BeGas is one of the leading companies in the production of biogas and bioautogas and with this new technology they intend to offer heavy vehicles with high reliability and efficiency and low CO2 emissions. According to the tests carried out, this engine could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% to 90% only during the operation of the mechanism.

On the other hand, autogas, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is obtained from byproducts of oil refining and natural gas extraction, which helps reduce pollution from these two industries. Bioautogas, on the other hand, is obtained from organic waste that is decomposed by bacteria in a natural and circular process.

The biogas and bioautogas industry

With this new low-emission engine, the BeGas company aims to extend the application of this fuel that can be obtained from renewable and clean sources and provides ideal performance for heavy transport. In this sense, the biggest challenge that this technology faces for its implementation is the complex and relatively expensive infrastructure it requires.

Of these two fuels, the most sustainable option is bioautogas, since it has the potential to take advantage of tons of waste from the agri-food, gastronomic, agricultural, etc. industries. However, it requires additional refinement processes that increase costs compared to biogas.

Towards sustainable heavy transport

While progress continues in the development of new emission-free mobility technologies, such as this new biogas and autogas engine or ECO gasoline engines, they allow us an intelligent transition towards sustainability. It is important that the change towards cleaner technologies is carried out without causing unforeseen side effects.
