He british fund zegonawhich has managed Vodafone’s business in Spain since the beginning of this month, has presented the unions with a employment regulation file (ERE) for a maximum of 1,198 employeeswhich means 36.65% of the staff, made up of a total of 3,268 workers, as reported by the company in a statement.

Vodafone Spain has summoned to the unions to start the consultation period, although still date has not been set starting point for the negotiation of this collective dismissal.

“This procedure arises from the conviction that it is the only formula to guarantee the viability and competitiveness of the company in the future and is addressed with a responsible and communicative attitudefrom the operator, and with the desire to achieve the best possible agreement for all parties,” the company has stressed.

The company has argued that the ERE is due to “economic, productive and organizational reasons” in the face of the “strong financial and commercial deterioration.”

Specifically, and according to the data offered by the company, the telecom company has decreased its total income by 8% and has lost approximately 400,000 customers of contract in the last two years.

“It is also due to the urgent need to carry out a organizational and operational changewith the aim of resizing the organization to adapt to the new market reality and recover competitiveness. This collective dismissal procedure will not affect the quality of the service or the support provided to customers,” the company added.
