BYD is already the largest manufacturer of plug-in vehicles in the world. The Chinese company has achieved such success not only with the cars of its main brand, but has also achieved it thanks to its parallel companies: YangWang and Fang Cheng Bao. The latter is now launching its second commercial model, the smallest of them all. Officially it is called Fang Cheng Bao Bao 3 and its style is completely different from the Bao 5. At the moment it has only been announced for the Chinese market, although we cannot rule out its arrival in Europe as part of the conquest strategy announced by BYD at the last Geneva Motor Show.

A year ago at this time, BYD released the third of its brands. He did so with a highly camouflaged model that would later become the Bao 5 or Leopard according to its international name. In this time the company has worked to the point of exhaustion to have two models already available and soon there will be three when the Bao 8, the largest unit in the house at 5.2 meters long, is presented to the public. Regarding Bao 3, everyone assumes that at the end of this year it will be available in China for a price close to 220,000 yuan, about 28,300 euros applying currency exchange.

The Bao 3 is nothing like its older brother. The design is completely different.

All-wheel drive and good dimensions for a purely electric off-roader

It may be a higher price than many expected for a Chinese electric car, but there are several reasons that justify such a price. As Fang Cheng Bao argues, its design is inspired by the Star Wars movies.. A style that in the image pretends to be much smaller than it really is. Bulging wheel arches, rectangular shapes and a rear trunk that simulates the box of a spare wheel that is not actually inserted. The previous concept, the Super 3, highlighted the presence of a drone installed on the roof, something that the final commercial unit could sport.

Due to its size, in Europe, it would be classified as a D-segment SUV/off-road vehicle, rival to models such as the Volkswagen ID.4. Its external measurements are: 4.6 meters long, 1.9 meters wide and 1.72 meters high for a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. Since we are talking about an all-terrain vehicle, specific figures for the field with an entry angle of 25 degrees and a departure angle of 28 degrees must also be taken into consideration. All this included in an empty weight of 2,150 kilograms. At the moment its interior presentation has not been revealed, although we assume that the usual minimalist character typical of BYD will predominate.

There are many important details left to be known, from the interior to the capacity of the batteries or the official autonomy.

The mechanical data is equally concise. The performance of the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 3 is conditioned by a dual motor and all-wheel drive scheme offering a front motor with 110 kW and a rear block of 220 KW. Power is supported by a BYD Blade-type LFP battery. The announced maximum speed is 201 km/h while it takes 4.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. The company has not wanted to declare other important figures such as battery capacity or autonomy, estimating a maximum range of approximately 600 kilometers.
