The renewed Kia Sonet 2025 is now available in Colombia. Now it looks more modern and improved for sure, although it retained its well-known 1.5-liter engine.
The Korean firm kia began marketing the recent update of the Kia Sonetcrossover SUV in the subcompact segment and competitive price. The changes were focused in its design, now looking more aggressive; as well as in the security area. In addition, it is now imported from China, where it is produced in alliance with the Jiangsu Yueda group.
This model began its commercial life in 2020 with a concept car of the same name, exhibited at the New Delhi Motor Show. In August of that year, the production version came out. It arrived in Colombia a year later, becoming one of the brand’s best-selling cars. As for the update that arrives in our country today, it was revealed worldwide in December 2023.
The Kia Sonet is built on the Hyundai-Kia K2 architecture, which in turn shares with the Hyundai Venue QXi, a shorter version with a shorter wheelbase compared to its Korean pair. Now, Let’s see what’s new that it brings to Colombia after this update.
New Kia Sonet: how has it changed?
The new Kia Sonet adopted graphic language United Opposites, with “L”-shaped optics that integrate the explorers and a new blind frame that, in turn, has a sporty-style grille. That is, the front changed radically, while on the sides there are new two-tone wheels and behind it leads new vertical LED optics, joined by a horizontal strip. The reverse lights were also relocated.
Inside, however, everything is almost the same. In the second row of seats A central armrest with cup holders and two USB-C connectors was added. The moldings around the air vents and on the center console adopted an aluminum tone, while the upholstery on the seats was renewed, with leather/fabric textures for the base model and leather at the most complete level.
But where there is a very obvious improvement is in security. The entire range receives 6 airbags, stability and traction controls, and hill start assist. Other items, such as hill descent control, multi-collision braking and vehicle stability management, also come standard.
New transmission
The Kia Sonet keeps the engine aspirated smartstream four-cylinder, multipoint injection, 1.5 liters and 16 valves, with 114hp at 6,300 rpm and 144 Nm torque at 4,500 rpm. Now, with a new IVT automatic gearbox (“intelligent variable”) with 8-gear simulation, and four programmed driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport and Smart. In the maximum version, sum three modes in the traction system: Snow, Mud and Sand.
This crossover SUV equips a system of sMcPherson-type independent suspension and stabilizer bar in the front axle, while the rear is semi-independent with a torsional element. Likewise, the direction incorporates electronic assistancein whose movement an electric motor collaborates.
Regarding the braking equipment, they are 15-inch ventilated discs on the front wheels and 14-inch solid discs on the rear wheelswith the obligatory support of anti-lock assist (ABS) and electronic brake distribution (EBD).
