This is the modern Paccar MX-13 for 2024

With the aim of complying with environmental standards, manufacturers Kenworth and Peterbilt presented their new Paccar-sourced powertrain.

Kenworth and Petebilt They are two of the most important manufacturers in the United States that for more than 100 years in the case of the first and about 90 in the case of the second have been an important part of the northern and Australian markets.

In order not to be left behind in the race to reduce polluting emissions, the Paccar Groupowner of both automotive terminals, presented in harmony its new engine that will be the novelty of the year for the Peterbilt 500 Series and Kenworth T and W Series,

Peterbilt, the first to add the Paccar MX-13

The new Paccar MX-13 engines, which will equip the trucks Peterbilt 579, 567 and 589, They arrive approved within the standard CARB Omnibus Regulation, emitting less CO2 and nitrogen oxides (NOx). To comply with this rule, the manufacturer updated the engine’s internal system and made updates to the aftertreatment system.

One of the most resonant changes of the latter is that it is larger in size, allowing a greater volume of gasessince it was equipped with a new 48 volt system for the use of an electric heater at the engine inlet, which guarantees lower NOx emissions.

The internal area of the system has a design that guarantees a better mix of the Arla32 (also known as urea or AdBlue) with the exhaust gases, a new longer selective catalyst (SCR), and also new gas sensors with longer useful life.

As a result, fuel consumption became more efficient and emissions were lower to meet CARB standards. This new engine is specified with a power of 510 horses and a torque of 2,510 Nm, and also with 455 horses and 2,250 Nm.

“Paccar MX engines are designed to deliver reliability and fuel economy in a comfortable, quiet and powerful package. “The new Paccar MX-13 low NOx engine offers the same great capabilities with a reduced carbon footprint for our customers,” said Scott Newhouse, chief engineer at Peterbilt.

Kenworth’s turn and its renewed engine

With the aim of meeting the polluting emissions standards of the state of California, in the United States, Kenworth also announced the launch of a new range of Paccar MX-13 engines for its range of trucks. T680, T880 and W990.

The new engines are called Paccar MX-13 CARB, a reference to the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which requires diesel engines to have lower emissions of CO2 and nitrogen oxides (NOx). This means they are the same engines that Peterbilt offers.

According to its manufacturer, this engine receives the same modifications as its sister brand with new control software and also modified parts, especially in the exhaust gas aftertreatment system.

Like the Peterbilts, Kenworth’s new 2024 range will also offer two power ranges for these engines: the 455 and 510 horses. In addition to reducing emissions, these engines can be more fuel efficient, offering high torque and power.

California is the US state with the strictest emissions standards today. However, despite being tough on polluting models, it offers a series of subsidies to transporters who invest in newer, less polluting models, which ends up compensating for the replacement of trucks, including electric and hydrogen models.
