Grandtan

Californian company Addmotor has introduced a new member of its Grandtan range of electric tricycles.

The Grandtan

Although many electric tricycles on the market can stop providing assistance at 22-24 km/h, the Grandtan It reaches up to 32 km/h in seven levels of pedal assistance.

There is a torque sensor on the bottom bracket for responsive but natural engine assistance. And if you don’t feel like pedaling uphill, a half-turn throttle will help you merge into traffic from a standstill without breaking a sweat.

Behind the seat post is a 960 Wh lithium-ion battery pack comprised of Samsung 21700 cells, certified to UL 2271 safety standards for smooth driving. In real-world testing, the electric trike achieved up to 137 km of riding per charge at the lowest pedal assist (PAS) level during every 8-10 hours of charging using the included 48V2A DC charger.

A Shimano Tourney 7-speed derailleur helps with travel flexibility, and a rear differential “allows rear wheels to adjust to different speeds and terrain«.

It is built around a 6061 alloy frame with a low wooden board at the bottom that serves as a footrest while using the throttle. Helpfully, the inclusion of a lockout suspension fork plus two rear shocks will no doubt help smooth out the roughest rides, working with a 24-inch double-wall rim with a 10cm wide tire at the front and two 20-inch wide tire rear wheels. Stopping power is provided by Tektro mechanical disc brakes with motor cut-out and a 180mm rotor on each wheel, and the electric trike also features a new parking brake system to prevent rollback on a slope.

Additionally, the new Grandtan features a padded seat with a backrest for added travel comfort, a backlit display that displays key trip data (and there’s an included USB port for recharging mobile devices), and the included headlamp is paired with a 5 in 1 tail light with brake and turn indicators.

The wheels benefit from aluminum mudguards to keep splashes under control, and the off-road-ready vehicle comes with a waterproof storage bag with a reflective strip to keep your gear or shopping dry even if you’re not. Total cargo capacity, including the driver and equipment in the front basket, is reported at 204kg. Addmotor also says that the tube at the rear has been upgraded for a trailer hitch too, in case you need to haul more stuff.
